Message: Sanders,

I had succesfully shut that night out of my memory for the last 13 years. Just thinking about that operation makes me quiver with sleep deprevation, rain soaked boots and attacks by viscious bannana spider and cobras. If it wasnt for that bananna flavoerd ice milk we could buy for a nickle I'd have gone completley insane.
Favorite Story: A couple of them; A corporal that was new to Lima company just before we deployed to Oki and the PI had been on barracks duty in the PI a few years before. He bragged about how he knew the jungle like the back of his hand and could find his way around blindfolded. Well he might as well have bene blindfolded because the second night on the first patrol he walked right off the edge of a cliff (sound familiar summers?) and had to be evacuated with a neck brace.

Buch and Cregg will remember this one, I was reminded of it while at the zoo this weekend;
Doing a jungle land nav course in panama, we were severily lost (2+ hours past due and still didnt know where we were) and had no maps other than those published in the 1950's. We decided to follow a stream west until we hit the canal and civilization. While walking down a small stream, an otherwise motionless cayman (at the time it looked like something off of the Discovery Channel) slide into the water. The only thing we really saw was the tail disappear into the water. Us Marines that stood tall in the face of battle did our best impression of JC walking on water trying to scramble up the bank and not become lunch for some paleozoic relic. And then there were the Ants and Bees, but thats another story.

Message: What if everyday you woke up not knowing if you'd be able to get out of bed or hold your child? For many people with multiple sclerosis, this is their reality.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) usually strikes adults in the prime of life - between the ages of 20 and 50. It is a chronic disease of the central nervous system affecting the brain and spinal cord. One new case of MS is diagnosed every hour. It comes and goes unpredictably, leaving people to wonder, "Will I become paralyzed, blind or have trouble walking? Will I be able to raise my family and continue my career?"

I am joining in the fight against this devastating disease. On July 17th and 18th I will be participating in the 2004 MS Bike Tour, cycling 150 miles in 2 days. I have a goal of raising $1000.00 to support the National MS Society. I am asking for your help in making my goal. Please click on the "To Sponsor Me" link below and sponsor me online today. Every dollar means that we are closer to a cure.

Any body interested in relocating to Chicago? The Chicago Public Schools, The Illinois State's Attorney's Office and The Chicago Transit Authority are all looking for investigators and high level security personnel. Starting pay ranges from around $39K to $75K depending on education and experience. College degree is preferred and prior military (particularly USMC) is highly regarded. I am on the Homeland Security Advisory Council for Chicago so this could be a good opportunity for those who are interested. Call or e-mail me if you have any questions.

Favorite Story: I think the argument about which force is best is easily settled by the news and history. Last year we took the country of Iraq. Who did it? 95% of the fighting was done by the Marine MEU's and the Royal Marines UNDER THE COMMAND OF AN ARMY GENERAL. The Army divisions were told to "go long", the Rangers did a big PR jump up in Kurd country but no significant contact. The Marines kicked ass all the way up to Baghdad and turned it over to the Doggies. Almost a year later, here comes the Worlds Finest back into the picture and the **** hits the fan. Who handles the bad guys? The SEALS? No they were with the Discovery Channel making a documentary on their eliteness featuring their new $1 Million silent drive Fountian boats. The Rangers? Nope, they are in Afghanistan holding down the frontier. Its just those damn jarheads again. Nothing special, just Marines. Not a bit different from any other Marine of any other time. Could be the same damn bunch that took Guadalcanal or punched a big hole in the Chinese at Chosin. All that talk about who is elite is a bunch of crap. It all breaks down to two categories. Those did the deed and those that have to hype themselves with intangible titles.

Favorite Story: Ya kinda got it right, Iraq invaded on the 2d of August, the 82d Airborne sent their "Ready Brigade". They arrived arrived in-country 4th of August (they arrived with M-551 Sheridan tanks (Real light tank.....real light (Aluminum hull and turret) and ugly) We, HMLA-369 "Gunfighters" were the first Marine Unit in-country on 15 August. The 82d had food and water supplies for 90 days, and enough ammo for 30 days. We had enough ammo for 6 months and enough food and water for 30 days. We watched as more of the 82d arrived later, ........Hell! they had C-5A's landing and off loading pallets of "Filled" sandbags. We brought empties and filled our own! We and the 82d's "Ready Brigade" provied support for each other at Jabail Airport. This went on till about the end of Septemeber as the build up gained momentum.

-------------------------------------------------

Mooch- HMLA-369 was not the first Marine unit in country at Daharan. I got off the same bird as you. 1/5 beat us there by 2 hours, however, 2 hours after we landed our birds were deployed armed and ready for combat further north ahead of them (we always thought the grunts were supposed to be between the bad guys and us!). At the time, our mechanics went and asked the army mechs how long until they were combat ready (they had like 50 Apaches on the runway there). Their answer was "about another week and a half." Their subsequent interrogative to us was the same question to which we replied, "See those birds taking off over there....! That's us!" As to our supply of ammo..... after our birds took off we finished unloading our pallets off the C-5 and placed them with every other units pallets with one major difference... we stationed pallet guards on them. The next morning an USAF bubba with his forklift loaded our pallets onto a flatbed trailer and then asked if any of the others were ours?.... Our pallet guards looked around and didn't see any other pallet guards, so........... ;-) Let's just say that when we got to Al Jubayl, our ordnance crew spent all nite spray painting "USMC" over "US ARMY" on a bunch of hellfire and tows we suddenly, mysteriously acquired. Semper Fi. (Name withheld to protect the ...uhm innocent, yeah that's it, the innocent!) "I got mine!" The unofficial motto of HMLA-369 Gunfighters!

Favorite Story: I pulled a training op up at Fort Erwin. I was with FSSG at the time. The op-training plan called for us being a rear echelon support unit defending against a mechanize force (the Army) which had broken through. They had a Marine CWO food service officer, who hadbeen in the Nam as a grunt. The cooks and ration supply guys were assigned a section of the premiter to defend. After conferring with the CO, he laid out is LP's and OP's etc. One of the things he did was to have the cooks, dig a hold in a gulley, strung with trip flares and cans. An Army fireteam of Rangers came through, tripped off the trip flare, fell into the hole, rattling cans all over the place. The Marine cooks on the hill opened up on them with their MARS equipped rifles, etc. and they were declared dead, wonunded and or captured. They were moved to the POW holding area. The Marine cooks really enjoyed tormenting these guys. Every chance they got they would remind them that they'd been wipped out and / or captured by a bunch of Marine Cooks! LOL!

I now have to moderate and approve all posting from here on out... this site is used for our communication and not the enjoyment of your pea brained amusement... Some story telling and name callings are fine but this insensitive and politically incorrect B.S. is out of control.

If you have something to say, have the balls to email them directly and not post your rants here. Any more of this crap and I will banish you forever... I know who you are and can track what you do on the message board.

I apologize to everyone who uses this site for it's real purpose and will post the messages as I receive and approve them... I apologize in advance for any delays.

I removed all the offensive postings and am sorry for any accidental deletions.

Sincerely,

Mike McGehee
