Hello Brothers,
I have been in country for about four weeks now. A few days ago was the longest day of my life... My platoon was hit with a Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device, (VBIED) while securing a bombed up police station in this small town. We were with the Iraqi National Guard, (ING) and the Iraqi Special Police, (ISP). Since my platoon is the Combined Arms Platoon, (CAP) we were responsible for setting up security around the police station as a company moved in. Two hours after arrival we got hit. After the blast came small arms fire and then mortars and then mortars all damn day. My Squadleaders, all Sergeants executed magnificent while the Doc and I carried a young Corporal into the CCP. He was hit by the blast and a piece of the bumper. There was a dull in the confusion until the ING started carrying wounded children into the CCP. The savages kill their own to get to us. After we got all the wounded out we unleased hell on all suspects...
We all owe our lives to a young Lance Corporal who emptied a box of 7.62 into the windshield of the car before it blew up. EOD came out to inspect the blast site. It was a 250 pound or more aerial bomb that had rocked our world that afternoon. Two of my Marines were flown out that day. One has already returned, on light duty. The other is still recovering well and expected to return next week.

Gents... based on my experience from planning the last reunion & the fact that I was in direct communication with almost everyone that we found... a good portion of Marines could not make Vegas & expressed their displeasure, due to timing and distance (vacation from work). In all fairness the people that have expressed Vegas (again) are the ones that live within driving distance from Vegas, while the rest of TFG do not... this is not just a Lima or 2nd plt reunion it's a Task Force Grizzly Reunion!
Vegas is not a good idea because:
Already did it!
Not everybody lives near Vegas!
West Coast Marines already had their chance!
Carrell already announced the next one in FL!
Plans are already in motion!
Orlando is a good idea because:
A huge tourist destination!
Great airfare deals to there!
Plenty of accommodations!
The rest of TFG Marines on the east coast can make this one.
Marines have a place to take the family (Disneyland & Universal Studios)!
Bars and clubs for drunk jarheads (Pleasure Island)!
I'm in agreement with Carrell... Orlando is already locked in!
I set up a poll for voting for the last one because we needed to agree on a place and time... now that we've already conquered the west there should not be a vote for the next one... it should be obvious to have it back east.
Maybe the people that are wanting a vote... actually contribute time & effort to the planning process. |

Orlando aint too bad. I was there a few months ago and there is tons to do. If you are concerned about night life, Disney now has Pleasure Island (I know half you pigs are thinking about a little island in the middle of subic bay, but thats not it) that is nothing but bars and night clubs. For more sedate accomodations, there are always the everpresent hotel bars, potentially stocked with MILF's that just put their kids to bed. Good pickings for you Sangi! |

I gotta jump on that grenade, It was me, Chomos, Banie, Wead, with Gugat and Swanson. All the weapons platoon guys made it back to the barracks, but Gugat and Swanson disappeared. Swanny was found naked laying in the road, and gugat was found running around naked out in town. TFG reunion in FL?
I'm game for Orlando... remember we are trying to make this accessible for everyone and Orlando is a major destination (entertainment, hotels, flights, etc.).. I'm thinking this is reasonable for everyone. If you want to be with just jarheads... we can do the boys night out again and drink early... if this is not enough... maybe you need to go back in the Corps... remember some people have families and are trying to make this a vacation too... |

Thailand... who was that that was found naked one morning by the Thai Marines... laying across the road ****** out of their mind from drinking that Mekong Whiskey?
We had a formation the Sgt Major and Col. ordered us to not drink the whiskey because it was opium based and then the last night in country... the Thais put on a party and the Sgt Major and Col. are chugging the Mekong Whiskey and diving from stage into the crowd.
Amazingly when we got back stateside and took the piss test... nobody in the battalion was busted for anything... because the entire battalion drank Mekong Whiskey that night. |
